Crossroads Mission Avenue

About the Organization

For over 40 years, Crossroads has been meeting the needs of the homeless in Central Nebraska. Our shelters in Grand Island, Kearney, and Hastings provide comprehensive care in a positive, nurturing, and educational environment. Services include safe shelter, hot meals, life skills classes, and case management which helps guests gain employment, financial independence, and stable housing. Our 4-Phase Recovery program and personalized case management, along with transitional housing, equip our guests for successful living after their time at Crossroads and lead to homelessness prevention. In recent years, Crossroads has been observing the needs of the homeless in Grand Island. According to the Nebraska Continuum of Care, Hall County consistently has the greatest emergency shelter need in the state outside of Omaha and Lincoln. In 2018, Hall County was home to 63% of Nebraska's unsheltered homeless individuals. 69% of those unsheltered were men. These men were living in parks, on the street, and in cars - places not meant to be home. With the support of the Grand Island community, Crossroads Mission Avenue is meeting that need, and throughout 2023 provided over 17,000 nights of stay for our needy neighbors, and almost 52,000 meals for those struggling with hunger in Hall County. We recognize the innate value of each guest as a human being and believe they deserve an opportunity to overcome obstacles and reach their full, God-given potential, and thus to fully participate in the life of our community.
