Prairie Plains Resource Institute
About the Organization
Prairie Plains Resource Institute has played an important role in protecting, improving and enhancing Nebraska's grasslands since 1980.
Restoration - We preserve and promote Nebraska's botanical heritage by creating diverse native plant communities with the seed of over 225 native grass and wildflower species. These efforts support a wide diversity of pollinators and other wildlife and provide a buffer from invasion of non-native plants.
Preservation - Tallgrass prairie once covered 400,000 square miles of central North America. Now only remnants remain. We own eight preserves, encompassing 6,512 acres, that allow people to connect with the unique prairie landscape now and for generations to come.
Education - It's often a connection with the outdoors that makes us appreciate where we live. Our summer camps for youth provide valuable knowledge about Nebraska's ecosystems and natural history. We also share information with landowners and others about range management, prescribed burning, native plants and wildlife.
