Wood River Elementary is focused on creating an inclusive playground that provides a fun and welcoming space. Through this project, we hope to stimulate growth in our children's cognitive, emotional, physical and social development. Instilling healthy initiatives early in life will help ensure the longevity not only of our school, but our community. Use of the playground is not just limited to students; many families, in addition to our free after school program, and town's daycare center, regularly take advantage of the school's play area. This project has been a dream of the community for many years. Wood River Rural Schools, the PTO, and the Wood River Centennial Community Foundation joined forces in 2017, and have been collaboratively raising funds for this project since that time. In a rural community, where the school free and reduced lunch rate is near 50%, it goes without saying that there is not an abundance of large donors. At this time, 77% of the funds needed for the renovation have been secured. Many individuals have worked tirelessly to ensure this feature of our community is one that we can be proud of.
