About the Wood River Community Centennial Foundation

Founded in 1984, the Wood River Community Centennial Foundation exists to encourage, receive, and administer contributions for the benefit of the Wood River area. For 40 years, the Foundation has helped sustain and enhance the “Good Life” our community enjoys, and we remain committed to educating and inspiring support that will carry Wood River forward for the next 40 years and beyond.

Each year, the Foundation partners with local organizations to champion a new community project through Go Big Give. These annual efforts focus on meaningful improvements that strengthen quality of life and create lasting benefits for residents of all ages.

2026 Go Big Give Project
This year’s featured project is a community collaboration between the Foundation, the City of Wood River, the student Lighthouse Committee from Wood River Rural Schools, and Vision 2020. Together, we are raising funds to renovate our tennis facilities, including construction of a new tennis court and the addition of two pickleball courts. This project will expand recreational opportunities, promote wellness, and serve students and community members for decades to come.

While our Go Big Give goal is $50,000, the total project cost will be significantly higher. Private dollars raised, combined with committed city funding, will strengthen our competitiveness as we pursue additional grant opportunities. Every donation is a visible sign of support and a powerful vote of confidence that this project has the full backing of our community.

Our Story
More than four decades ago, a forward-thinking resident, Donna Moyer, envisioned a community foundation that would serve as a vessel for growth and development in Wood River. With remaining funds from the town’s centennial celebration, along with generous donations, memorials, and legacies, that vision became reality.

The Foundation is registered with the State of Nebraska as a nonprofit corporation and has received federal tax-exempt status. In partnership with many community groups, the Foundation has provided matching grants, seed money, fiscal sponsorships, and direct grants benefiting projects such as the local fire and rescue department, Stick Creek, Kids, Legacy Station, Wood River Elementary, and Wood River Rural High School.

To date, more than $1 million has been returned to the community through hundreds of approved grants and scholarships, including over 500 scholarships awarded to graduating seniors of Wood River Rural High School.
