TEAMMATES of Grand Island

A nonprofit organization

To positively impact the world by inspiring youth to reach their full potential through mentoring.

Tom and Nancy Osborne founded the TeamMates Mentoring Program in 1991 to provide support and encouragement to school-aged youth. TeamMates of Grand Island was one of the first six communities to have a chapter in 1999. Our chapter represents all four Grand Island school districts for students in grades 6th-12th. The goal of the program is to see youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. Mentors are volunteers from the community who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the life of a young person.

Mentors give youth a sense of hope, purpose, and vision. Since its inception, the Grand Island chapter has:
- Served over 900 local students
- Provided over $100k in college scholarships to GI high school grads
-72% of mentees have fewer disciplinary referrals
- 48% of mentees improve their attendance
- 63% of mentees improve their academic performance
- 91% of mentees reported higher levels of hope as a result of their mentor

Testimonials

"TeamMates is a fun program where you get to meet with a mentor that shares similar interests with you. You get to meet with you mentor once a week and talk, play games, and plan out your future. Mentors are a good role model that you can look up to and they provide great advice. TeamMates helps you prepare for life beyond high school and give you an opportunity to receive great scholarships." Selima A. 2024
