American Red Cross

A nonprofit organization

The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.

As one of the nation's premier humanitarian organizations, the American Red Cross is dedicated to helping people in need throughout the United States and, in association with other Red Cross networks, throughout the world. We depend on the many generous contributions of time, blood, and money from the American public to support our lifesaving services and programs.

Today, the supporters, volunteers, and employees of the American Red Cross provide compassionate care in five critical areas:
1. People affected by disasters
2. Support for members of the military and their families
3. Blood collection, processing, and distribution
4. Health and safety education and training
5. International relief and development

Testimonials

Black smoke bellows out of a house, while Grand Island firefighters try to save a home. At 3:50 p.m. a call comes into the Red Cross, a family has just lost their home due to a disaster, a home fire.

Red Cross volunteers responds to the call, by working with the family. First, by making sure everyone made it out of the home safely, then, to provide them with a client assistance card to purchase items to meet their immediate unmet needs such as clothing, food, and and a safe place to stay.
