Now in our 43rd year of serving Central Nebraska, Crossroads Mission Avenue continues to carry out our mission to bring glory to God through the helping of people. Bringing help and hope to the needy for so many years, Crossroads is now the largest provider of homeless services in the region, serving over 300 at our Grand Island location in 2025. Our goal through Go BIG Give 2026 is to raise funds to provide our 4-Phase Recovery Program, so that we can continue to serve the Grand Island community with homeless services for men in Hall County!

Crossroads continues to meet the needs of the homeless in Central Nebraska, with comprehensive care in a positive, nurturing and educational environment. Services include safe shelter, hot meals, life skills classes, and case management, which helps guests gain employment, financial independence, and stable housing. Our 4-Phase Recovery program and personalized case management, along with transitional housing, equip our guests for successful living after their time at Crossroads and lead to homelessness prevention. To meet a critical need in the community, Crossroads opened the Mission in Grand Island in 2018, and is currently the only provider of homeless services to men in Grand Island. With the support of the Grand Island community, Crossroads provided almost 16,000 nights of safe shelter & over 47,000 nutritious meals for unsheltered men in 2025. Serving the needs in Hall County in 2025, Grand Island Crossroads provided 9,199 food boxes to hungry families, and over $25,000 worth of clothing and household goods free of charge to those in need through our Mission Avenue Thrift Community Needs Voucher program. Your support for Crossroads through Go BIG Give 2026 will allow the Mission to continue to step in with vital homeless services when our struggling neighbors need us most!

Testimonials

Said came to the US looking for a better life. But upon arriving, with no family here, he had nowhere to go. A humanitarian aid worker told him about Crossroads. Navigating a new culture was difficult, and Said is grateful for everything the Mission has done for him. He says, “First, Crossroads gave me a place to stay and stability. They allowed me to meet people who treat me like family.” Said’s short-term, emergency stay provided housing and food to meet his immediate needs. The Mission’s programming has provided access to a job and job skills training for him. Working for Mission Avenue Thrift, Said has been learning retail operations. He is also a key to staffing our recycle program, where our Workforce Development program has given him hands-on experience in sorting, baling, and packaging materials for recycle, preparing for global markets. Coming to the Mission in May 2023, Said has worked his way through the program and has now moved into his own apartment. Said is grateful, saying, “Crossroads is always ready to support me with food and anything I need.” To supporters, Said has this message, “First, God bless you for what you’re doing! Keep supporting Crossroads because this organization is doing good work. Without this [help], there wouldn’t be anyone to help us succeed!”

Army Veteran Brandon knows how to take care of himself. But trying to provide for his brother while living in a bad neighborhood, where the neighbors kept stealing from them, stretched his resources too thin, and he found himself homeless. Coming to Crossroads and working through the programming, he says, “Before I came to the mission, I was hopeless, depressed, injured. Since [then], I felt like there's a lot of hope. There's a lotta healing here. This faith-based environment really helps me a lot. I'm thankful to the Mission because I had time to heal in a safe environment. I'm thankful that I have a place to sleep and eat. I just feel grateful that there's actually people that care for us out there. It feels good to have hope. And I hope people will support the Mission, because there's a lot of us out there that need it. A lot of us have grown up without the structure that everybody else has. Like, we haven't been taught financial responsibilities. And now I got business ideas, and I'm staying ready to get my own place, eventually. And now I can maybe raise my kids up that I have already. I got a lotta life ahead, God willing, so.”

Juan immigrated from Cuba as an adult. When he lost his home, he had no family here and had to move in temporarily with a friend. Without an address, he lost his Medicaid just as his Huntington’s disease was getting worse. By God’s grace, a neighbor told him about Crossroads and brought him to the Grand Island Mission, where he got the help he needed as a Senior Citizen to get his Medicaid and Social Security Disability Insurance in place, enabling him to move into a supportive living situation where he’s getting the level of care he needs! “I’m thankful to Crossroads for everything. They gave me total support for my situation. This is an important place.”
