Clarks Public Library
About the Organization
My name is Barbee Sweet and I am the Library Director of the Clarks Public Library. I have been the Director for 19 years, and during that time, the Library has undergone many changes. The basement walls have been sheet rocked and painted, and the basement floor has been repainted. There has been a drinking fountain installed. There have been many computer updates and additions over the years with free Wi-Fi for anyone to use even during the hours that the library isn't open. All of these projects have been funded either by grants or donations and they have been greatly appreciated by all who use the library!
The summer months are typically the busiest for the library, and because of this, I try very hard to find new and exciting ways to capture the children's interest in learning and reading. Each year there is a Summer Reading Program that runs 8 weeks, and is completely free for all who participate for the eight-week program. During the Summer Reading Program, there are weekly programs, crafts, movies, and reading times for all children to enjoy. I'm very happy to say that this program has really taken off over my 19 years of working here and we average 40 kids each week!
