You know it when you meet a Girl Scout! A Girl Scout shines with confidence. She expresses herself in the things she creates. She takes action by caring for her community. A Girl Scout will take on any challenge. She nurtures friendship she has with her sister Girl Scouts. She raises her hand to be a leader. She is changing the world.

Today's girls represent humanity's greatest untapped talent pool. Investing in girls will produce the greatest return in economic development, social progress, and public health - improving not only individual lives, but the fabric of society overall.

Girl Scouts was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low. Juliette believed passionately that girls should be given the same opportunities as boys to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually. Juliette was a true trailblazer and her visionary leadership created a strong foundation for the organization.

For more than 100 years, Girl Scouts has been providing leadership experiences for girls. In Girl Scouts, girls engage in activities that help them discover themselves and their values, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. When Girl Scouts was founded, there was no path to leadership for women; Juliette knew it would take an organization of all girls to change the world. There are now more than 59 million women throughout the United States who have benefitted from the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
